CHRISTMAS has come early for fans of the Isuzu D-MAX with its 2022 ute range set to arrive early, with vehicles in dealerships from 1 December. Originally slated for a first quarter 2022 launch, the new offerings feature a host of updates and refinements.
A new entry-level 1.9-litre D-MAX SX Single Cab Chassis 4×2 is also on its way, set to arrive in early January. there’s also a boost to the GCM (now 6,000kg) on 4×4 models, and new LS-M and LS-U cab chassis variants.
A new D-MAX LS-U+ also debuts, featuring leather-accented interior trim, smart keyless entry, factory-fitted tow bar receiver and tub liner, auto-dimming mirror plus heated front seats and door mirrors.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our updated 2022 D-MAX range to our Australian customers earlier than initially forecasted,” Isuzu UTE Australia managing director Hiroyasu Sato said.
“Fast-tracking its availability ensures we get the improved product and a wider variety of options into market sooner, which essentially helps to improve customer satisfaction—which has always been a priority to us.”
The 2022 D-MAX range features a lane support system switch too, allowing you to seamlessly toggle lane keep assist type functions on and off. Lane Support Systems on-or-off. That will be a welcome addition for many.
The updated D-MAX X-TERRAIN , which has been enhanced with factory-fitted tow bar receiver, red stitching and black interior appointments, auto-dimming mirror and heated front seats and door mirrors is set to be offered at $62,990 drive away.
The new entry level model, the D-MAX SX single cab, has been updated with new RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine, returning class-leading fuel economy of 7.0-litres/100km, will have a drive away price of $29,990 when it arrives.
In updating the range, with six new variants in all, Isuzu has dropped two of its existing offerings, including the D-MAX SX Space Cab Ute 4×2 auto and D-MAX SX Crew Cab Ute 4×4 manual.
Other changes include the addition of a tow bar receiver on the LS-U and LS-U+ (as well as the X-TERRAIN), a new tub liner on the LS-U and LS-U+, and rear parking sensors on the LS-M Crew Cab Ute. Cab Chassis variants can now also be opted in alloy or steel trays.
There’s also an interior update for the LS-U Crew Cab Ute, a favourite amongst tourers, caravaners and families, with the additional convenience of smart keyless entry, with push button start, walk away door l and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.
It also scores a factory-fitted under rail tub liner, while the LS-U Crew Cab Chassis models are equipped with a 1,800mm-long alloy or steel tray. But it’s the range topping X-TERRAIN that gets the most love of all.
The 2022 iteration adds variable heated front seats, dual vanity mirror lights, auto-dimming rear view mirror and heated door mirrors. New signature X-TERRAIN ‘red’ stitching replaces the white of 2021 too.
Overall, the interior is bolder, darker and features more of that X-factor—with a new blacked-out instrument cluster with X-TERRAIN insignia, and tasteful black trim accents across the dash, doors, steering wheel and air vents.
The 2022 Isuzu D-MAX range comes with the brand’s Service Plus 6-7-7; encompassing a 6-year 150,000km warranty, up to 7-years roadside assist, and 7-years capped price servicing.
As we mentioned, the 1.9-litre SX Single Cab Chassis in 4×2 manual, kicks off the range at $29,990 drive away. At the top of the 4×2 range is the auto LS-U Crew Cab Ute, powered by a 3.0-litre turbo diesel, at $51,400.
The 4×4 Cab Chassis range starts at $41,200 and tops out at $58,200. The 4×4 Ute range beings at $50,900 and continues to the specially priced X-TERRAIN 4×4 auto (at $62,990 drive away). All prices, unless otherwise stated, are plus on-roads.
It’s available in Mineral White, Basalt Black Mica, Cobalt Blue Mica, Mercury Silver Metallic, Obsidian Grey Metallic, Marble White Pearl, Magnetic Red Mica (the latter two are LS-U, LS-U+ and X-TERRAIN only), and Volcanic Amber Metallic (X-TERRAIN only).
